The House

Built in 1888 and taken back to the studs, this one came back as four storeys of house on a Jefferson Park street.

The rebuild

A historic home, completely rebuilt — old bones, everything else new.

Three bedrooms, six beds and three and a half baths spread over four floors, so nine people can be in the same house without being in the same room.

The table

A spacious wooden dining table, handcrafted by the owner, sits at the middle of it. The kitchen behind it is fully equipped — the sort where nine people's breakfast is not a problem.

There is a curated coffee bar, which is a polite way of saying nobody has to leave the house before they are ready to.

The master

King bed, and a steam shower off it. It is the room people quietly hope they have been given.

The game room

A family and game room with a Ms. Pacman machine in it. No quarters required. It settles arguments and starts new ones.

The bunk room

Down on the lower level, a bunk room with flexible sleeping arrangements — the part of the house that makes the difference between a family fitting and a family not.

Getting in

Private entrance, keypad self check-in from 4 PM, free parking — which, this close to the stadiums, is worth saying out loud. Out by 11 AM.

The neighbourhood

Two hundred yards to the park. Everything else is minutes.

Jefferson Park is the small neighbourhood that sits between Empower Field and downtown Denver. This house is in the middle of it.

Brian Common is 150 yards up the street and Jefferson Park itself is 200 — close enough that the park is where you take a coffee, not somewhere you drive to. The Downtown Aquarium is 550 yards away, Empower Field 700.

Everything else downtown is a short hop: Ball Arena at 3 minutes, Union Station at 5, Coors Field at 7 and Meow Wolf at 9. Park the car when you arrive and mostly leave it there.
